We are here to provide effective AHC-wide programs and services to help you succeed. We work in conjunction with the University of Minnesota Office of Human Resources.
The U.S. Department of Labor has revised regulations governing overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act, which regulates minimum wage, overtime pay, and other workplace rules. Briefly, under the old overtime rule, anyone making less than $455 a week ($23,660 a year) had to be paid overtime if they worked more than 40 hours a week. But the new rule will increase that salary threshold beginning December 1, so that anyone making less than $913 a week ($47,476 a year) will be eligible for overtime. (Some positions will have lower thresholds based on job duties.)
As a result of this change, current exempt University employees who do not meet the new thresholds will be moved to nonexempt (exception hourly), even though their work will not change, and they will need to begin tracking the time they work beyond their schedule, including overtime hours they work beyond 40 hours a week. The new Labor Department rules apply to exempt employees, including supervisors, regardless of their job duties. In order for the University to meet the requirement of the December 1 date, we will implement this change November 14.
